Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala

The Dharmasthala as the name suggest, is the perfect embodiment of the true word Dharma in essence and spirit. It is a unique pilgrim center, which evokes awe and reverence from the multitude of devotees drawn from all over the country.
Nestling at the foot of the Kudremukh range of the Western Ghats on the banks of river Netravathi, Dharmasthala Kshetra, located on the costal district of Dakshina Kannada, is a place where caste, creed, race, language and religion hold no bar. It stands as a perfect symbol of religious tolerance and communal harmony. Millions of piligrims from all walks of life are drawn to Kshetra to witness and experience the sanctity of a temple complex, which is the confluence of three religions. Here lord Manjunatha (Shiva) is worshiped along with native Daivas. The priests are Vaisnavite Brahmins and guardian of the temple is Jain devotee.

Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala has an illustrious legacy of charity, social service and philanthropy spanning over 800 years. Though a renowned pilgrim center, it has served as a catalyst of a revolutionary social movement aimed at transforming the society at large. Based on the philosophy of “Service to people is service to god”, it has put dharma in action by channelising all its energies and resources in charity and services in the form of Annadan (mass meal), Vidyadan (free/subsidized education), Oushadadan (free/ subsidized medical aid), Abhayadan (countering the fear of evil spirits) and Nyayadan (Justice based on truth and facts).

SDME Trust/Society

Knowledge is power. Knowledge can be obtained through meaningful Education. Realising that the root cause of most of the evils affecting mankind was literacy, poverty and belief in superstitions, the then Dharmadhikari Late Rathnavarma Heggade, Father of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, was bent upon nipping the evil in the bud. The Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management therefore, established the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Education Trust to give impetus to education. Dr. D. Veerendra Heggede has carried forward the torch still further to give fillip to primary, secondary, colligate professional and vocational education, by setting up SDM education Society. This Society now runs numerous educational institutions to cater to the needs of a wide section of students. Today, the society draws students from India and abroad to experience the unique 3education atmosphere not found elsewhere.

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade – Visionary in Action

The Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Padmabhushana Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is a great visionary and a man of action. He has intensely devoted his life for the spiritual and social transformation of the society. Displaying an outlook that is thoroughly modern and scientific, he has been the guiding sprit behind all the pioneering works undertaken by the Kshetra. The right blend of modern methods and scientific approach has produced astounding results. This is evident in the plethora of institutions and pioneering works successfully managed by the Dharmadhikari under the aegis of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala.
Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is the multi faceted personality who combines in him myriad roles of a friend, philosopher and guide. Above all he is a man of selfless dedication and working assiduously to uplift mankind by divinity, charity and guidance. Shouldering the enormous responsibility of Dharmadhikari at a relatively young age of 20, Dr. Heggade has relentlessly moved in the glorious footsteps of his illustrious ancestors. Though he inherited the legacy of social service from his forefathers, he carefully nurtured the seed sown by them. Credit goes to him for transforming Dharmasthala Kshetra into a giant organisation of social service and Charity, the like of which is unprecedented in the annals of mankind.

The Conception:

The country, which is in transition stage, requires large number of dynamic administrators and business leaders. SDM Education Society Regd. Ujire intends to contribute its share in the form of business leaders driven by Indian ethos & spirituality at a reasonable cost.
A number of graduates aspiring to become business leaders or entrepreneurs are deprived of getting good education in the field of Management due to higher fee structure or less encouragement from the parents to move to others places to get their education.
SDM Education Society has its own resources intellectual as well as infrastructure resource, which is to be utilized for the developmental activities of the region. The management has sufficient administrative expertise as it is running chain of other educational institutions from Kindergarten to Post Graduation level, professional to non-professional institutions.
